It is important that we recognize the varying experiences of those who survived this horrific event and historical period of time. But among that, do we ever think of the experience as something unavoidable or inescapable for the victims? Do you consider someone who suffered as a result of the Holocaust, but who never went to a camp to still be a “survivor of the Holocaust”? We must. In all of that, flashes of Nazis, Hitler, and death may come to memory.
When you read the word “Holocaust” what kinds of words and images surface in your mind? Many of us have a mind that hones in on the suffering of the victims and the heinousness of the perpetrators.
